Lobo Tiggre of The Independent Speculator sat down with Kitco News at the New Orleans Investment Conference and explained why he sold most of his gold and silver mining stocks early this year. He ended up holding more cash this summer than at any other point in his career.
Now he is putting money back to work, but not into the precious metals equities most investors are watching. “The most compelling opportunity is hands down uranium,” Tiggre said. Uranium stocks are trading as though the metal itself had collapsed, while the long term contract price, which he calls the real market, continues to rise. He traced the selloff to investors who treated uranium as an AI trade and to tax loss selling that started unusually early. He views the decline as a gift and added that either he is missing something or “the market is making a mistake.”
Tiggre is not ready to buy gold stocks yet. When the time comes he plans to lean heavily into silver miners because he expects silver to rebound harder than gold once the next leg higher begins. He also sees potential entries developing in oil and copper if those markets swing the opposite direction from their recent trends. In the meantime he remains focused on disciplined due diligence and the questions that can quickly expose weak companies on the conference floor.
This Kitco discussion builds directly on the views Tiggre shared in his recent SilverTrade Insider interview. In that conversation he stressed that he had not sold a single ounce of his physical gold or silver stack, which he treats as savings rather than an investment, while moving to a large cash position in the mining equities:
Lobo warned Insider viewers that the charts looked scary and that further weakness was possible before the next major opportunity.
That warning certainly materialized over the past few months as gold and silver prices were relentlessly hammered, ultimately breaking below $4,000 & $50 on Friday.
The New Orleans remarks show him still holding substantial cash and deploying only selectively into uranium while waiting for clearer signs in the precious metals space.
