“WATERGATE TIMES 100”: Vince Lanci & Eric Yeung on the Midterm Sweep Gold Has NOT Priced In

It's Watergate Times 100 & Gold Hasn't Priced it in!

Our friends Vince Lanci of GoldFix & Eric Yeung, known as King Kong, sat down for a wide ranging discussion that treated the recent Democratic midterm sweep as a political shock the gold market has not yet absorbed.

Yeung argued that what comes next resembles the Nixon and Carter eras, when presidents lost effective control and gold eventually repriced higher. He framed the situation as a Watergate times 100 event that is still waiting to materialize, with lame duck dynamics, gridlock, and a president losing the ability to dictate outcomes. Lanci and Yeung walked through the historical parallels, noting that gold has disconnected from equities in similar periods of political erosion and that semi tightening combined with a weakened executive has previously supported higher metals prices.

The conversation then turned to structural changes in how gold functions as collateral. They examined Project Ensemble, Hong Kong’s emerging gold hub, and efforts by the LBMA and Bank of England to treat gold as high quality liquid assets.

Yeung emphasized that tokenization could limit rehypothecation while still allowing gold to serve as stable collateral for financing. He described China’s approach as more methodical than Western policy, with a focus on physical delivery, price discovery first, and gold’s role in supporting the renminbi for project finance. Lanci pressed on haircuts and the difference between Tier 1 capital treatment and HQLA status, with both agreeing that gold’s lower volatility relative to Treasuries makes it increasingly attractive as collateral when trust in paper claims declines. Yeung also shared on the ground observations from Hong Kong about rising activity and capital flows into the physical market.

Yeung was direct about his own positioning. He holds physical gold, silver, and mining shares because he sees the collateral shift as a multi year process rather than a short term trade. He referenced historical lessons from the Ming Dynasty’s silver experience and argued that China needs gold collateral for survival rather than for winning a pure currency contest. The pair closed by discussing how gold revaluation scenarios remain underappreciated and how tokenization infrastructure could accelerate the transition once political uncertainty peaks.

This discussion extends the framework Lanci outlined on his viral September appearance on The SilverTrade Insider, when he described the slaughter in the bond market as the tell rather than the tragedy.

At that time Lanci stated that the collateral war matters more than any currency war and that silver sits in the sweet spot as physical ownership becomes decisive.

The current conversation with Yeung simply advances that same thesis by showing how political shocks and institutional moves toward gold as collateral reinforce the structural bid for the metals once seasonal and paper driven selling exhausts itself.

Yeung’s remarks also build on the case he made in his recent SilverTrade Insider interview from Hong Kong. In that appearance he warned that the Treasury market was already voting against Washington’s narrative of control and declared that physical gold is king when no one trusts anyone else. He pointed to rising long term yields as evidence of insufficient demand for U.S. debt and described Federal Reserve actions as public relations rather than genuine restraint.

The GoldFix discussion with Lanci connects those earlier warnings about ultimate denial to the concrete institutional steps now underway in Hong Kong and London, where gold is being prepared for a larger role as trusted collateral precisely because paper alternatives are losing credibility.
